The best protection from flying glass and other debris is lying face down with the head to a wall, although for the present students will not assume the prone position." [handbook]

ALMA MATER Close beside the Allegheny
Hill and vale serene,
Stands our own, our Alma Mater,
Aspinwall, our Queen.chorus
All ye sons and all ye daughters,
Fight the good old fight --
Honor Aspinwall forever,
Hail, Maroon and White.
There she stands in all her glory,
Loved by one and all,
Here's to you our Alma Mater,
Dear Old Aspinwall.

SCHOOL DAYS LONG GONE
by Carolyn McQuaid Thomas
First Aspinwall High School at 5th St. and Center Ave., 1917The first "Aspinwall High School" was in the building on Center Avenue (east side, between 5th and 6th) which was built in 1892. A prior one-room school had been located on the NE corner of the Delafield property (approximately above what became the Aspinwall playground?) and it had about 25 students (all grades) in 1891-92. Some of these shots go back to the 1940s. Wonderful nostalgia. Separately, there are additional pics and lots of Aspinwall area history on this site's home page. Go to: Aspinwall Memories.

2005 AHS FEST REMEMBERED 50th REUNION ACCOLADES FOR CLASS OF '55
They returned for the Friday reunion on August 26, 2005, not only from Pennsylvania, but from Florida, California, Virginia, Maine, Michigan, Idaho, Texas, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois, Maryland, Georgia, Louisiana, Nevada, New Hampshire -- Guatamala! Even a drizzle didn't deter the hearty grads of AHS from a picnic the next day. That Saturday night the ole alma mater was lustily sung along the Allegheny River -- and a belt-busting Sunday brunch rounded out the festivities. An occasion that for the grads will never happen again.

WHAT HAPPENED TO SAVOR'S BARBECUE?From Salli Hamre Lodge: "...places gone in A-wall: Bards, Erwin Drug Store, Humes Garage, Embassy Theatre, Womens Club, (Zuccaro's Store still there under new management), Savor's. Dinty Moore's, Lutheran Church. Presbyterian Church destroyed by fire, rebuilt, bell tower saved. Homes selling for $250,000 and up. Football field still there, used for Little League baseball, football, A-wall recreations. Memorial Day Parade still held each year."
